This workshop is specially designed for practitioners of traditional Thai massage, table massage, yoga or movement therapy. The focus is to explore techniques that will help you execute postures and techniques with less physical strength and more balance, and better body mechanics. Factors such as relative body size, proper body posture,“surrender”, deep breathing and fluid movement from one position to the next will be practiced, and each participant will explore these concepts with others. We will study and practice physical and spiritual exercises that may enhance your experience and that of your client during each session. The intent of this course is to familiarize you with basic concepts that can be integrated into your own personal practice.
Thai Massage in Side & Prone Positions~ Sat & Sun, 14-15 April, 2012 – $259
Sat. 9 am-5 pm, Sun. 9 am-3 pm: 13 hours CEU, NCBTMB and THAI
This workshop is unique because it focuses exclusively on techniques and postures in side-lying and prone (face down) positions. Previous experience is not required, but a background in yoga, massage or body movement is helpful. If you haven’t studied Thai massage, this will be a good introduction. If you already have studied Thai massage, then this workshop will add new techniques to your repertoire and a fresh perspective on the work. Side position is very comfortable for the receiver, and is an excellent position from which to stretch your client and to treat a variety of back problems. It is especially suited for large or inflexible people and is also the only safe way to work with pregnant women. Prone position allows the therapist to treat the posterior aspect of the body, especially feet, legs, lower back and shoulders. Participants learn traditional Thai techniques, assisted yoga postures and acupressure therapies, and a period of silent, focused practice takes place at the end of each day. Many of the techniques may be integrated into table massage and other forms of healing. The class is open to students of all levels.
